Tim Brand’s Vision: How MH4H & Vi Bella are Creating a Sustainable Pignon

by | Jun 3, 2024

From struggle to sustainability: A powerful partnership between MH4H and Vi Bella is empowering Haitians. MH4H CEO Tim Brand explains how.

Here at Many Hands for Haiti (MH4H), we believe in the power of collaboration. Our name itself reflects this core principle – that true transformation happens when we join hands and work together. This philosophy is central to everything we do in Pignon, Haiti and it’s beautifully exemplified by our inspiring partnership with Vi Bella.

For over two decades, MH4H has been committed to supporting sustainable development in Pignon. We started by focusing on existing organizations already making a difference, a strategy that has allowed us to build strong relationships within the community. But as Tim Brand, our CEO, explains, “We realized the need for us to create something new to usher in transformation, while still maintaining strong relationships.” This dual approach of collaboration and innovation has been key to our success.

This is where Vi Bella comes in. Their commitment to providing meaningful work opportunities perfectly aligns with our vision of empowering Haitians to become self-sufficient. As Tim often reminds us, “Haitians are some of the hardest working people I know, yet, every day is a constant struggle. The obstacles are everywhere… Our job is to help stock the pond with fish, so when people put forth the effort of work, it will be productive.” Vi Bella’s contribution is like adding those fish to the pond, creating a sustainable source of income and opportunity.

Vi Bella isn’t just creating jobs; they’re creating a foundation for a brighter future. By providing steady income, they’re giving families the resources they need to break free from the cycle of poverty. But our partnership goes beyond just employment.

MH4H’s various programs, from our primary school initiative to our wraparound family services, create a supportive environment where work can truly flourish. Tim refers to this as “geographic saturation,” where a network of programs ensures that families receive the comprehensive support they need to thrive.

The results speak for themselves. We’ve witnessed countless lives transformed through this collaboration. Eldsi, for example, is one of the many individuals who has benefited from the partnership. Tim shared her story at last year’s “Better Together” event, highlighting the positive impact Vi Bella’s employment opportunities have had on her life.

The success of this partnership is a testament to the power of collaboration. It’s a model for future development efforts, proving that when organizations work together with a shared vision, the impact can be exponential. As Tim says, “When organizations work together in true partnership, 1+1 does not equal 2. It grows exponentially.”

There are many ways you can be a part of this incredible story. Your prayers provide the foundation for our work, giving us strength and guidance as we move forward. Financial contributions allow us to continue serving families and creating opportunities. Sharing our stories helps raise awareness and inspire others to get involved.

We’re also always looking for talented individuals to join our team in Haiti. Currently, MH4H employs a dedicated staff of 130 people who are passionate about making a difference in Pignon.

Looking ahead, our vision extends beyond Pignon. By 2026, we aim to complete the “saturation” of a five-kilometer radius with our programs and staff. This ambitious goal includes finalizing the construction of our primary school, adding classrooms for grades 7-9, and further developing our infrastructure to serve hundreds of pregnant and new mothers. The impact of these programs will continue to ripple outwards for years to come.

This is just the beginning. Let’s continue working together, building a future filled with hope and opportunity for the people of Pignon. Visit our website or attend the upcoming “Better Together” event to learn more about how you can get involved.

Together, we can empower Haitian communities and build a brighter future for Pignon.
