Day 1 – We’re Here!
Day 2 – Seeing Jesus

Written by Kaylin of the Bethel Team

Unlike the rest of our days here so far, today went by so quickly. It was market day, and let me tell you, it was like Black Friday at Walmart when the doors open. X10. We walked around and saw things that were for sale like used shoes, goats, different garden vegetables, machetes, clothing, wigs and hair products, handmade chairs, and donkey baskets. Later this afternoon, we went to an orphanage and held a Bible school. Afterwards, some goats that were purchased at the market were taken to some families in need. Tonight, abnormally, is a relaxing night full of the options of hiking to the Pignon sign partly up the mountain, staying back and enjoying the nice weather, talking with our group, or playing games.
Shopping at the market, the team found the “Machete Section” This is how we roll in Haiti, traveling Haitian style. A woman brought a baby to us in the market, as the baby was born on Sunday and was seriously malnourished. We brought the baby to the hospital to get help. We also ran into some twins that needed help. Today we bought goats and delivered them, which was really great as our church raised money during the Give Joy campaign. We did a VBS at the nearby orphanage.
We were able to deliver goats to families, explaining to bring the first born back to use to be able to give to another family. We also prayed with each family.

The children are beautiful. Showing God’s love to all the children. Here are the kids doing a VBS craft. The Jonah skit was but back into action today, as we performed the skit to another group of children.

As I sit here, looking at the mountain that I hiked 2 years ago, I think about what once was. I think about the quiet movie night, playing basketball with people twice my size, I think about all the great food I had, the people we hung out with, I think about how my mindset and lifestyle was changed significantly. And then I realize, this trip is nothing like that.
This trip wasn’t NEAR as rushed to get here as 2 years ago did, the people (from the U.S. and from Haiti) are very different, the environment feels different. It was safe to say I wasn’t too excited to go. But I think God wanted me to see something here. Something that’s going to change me. So as I continue my stay, pray that I find God in a way I thought not possible.
