It isn’t every day when one gets to pursue God-given dreams, but for Heidi Schulte, this is exactly what is happening. She has committed to serving for the next 2 years with Many Hands for Haiti (MH4H) as a development coordinator in Pignon, Haiti.
Schulte intends to move to Haiti in mid-July or early August, depending on flight availability with Missionary Flights International. MH4H has been seeking someone to assist with leading educational programs, in particular the Thrive for 5 program, as well as someone with a heart for prayer ministries and leadership equipping.
“We are so excited to see what God does through Heidi’s commitment to serving with us in Haiti. Her story and passions weave well into what MH4H is trying to establish in Haiti, and we couldn’t be more excited to see her serve in this capacity,” said Tim Brand, executive leader for MH4H.
After graduating from Central College last May (2014) with a double major in elementary education and art, Schulte first traveled to Haiti, not really sure why she was on the trip. Before the week was over, God had totally broken her heart for the country. Ever since that visit, she has been praying about her growing desire to return to Haiti and to partner with MH4H in a more invested way. She first accepted Jesus’ invitation to join Him in Germany and then Ethiopia during a 6-month discipleship training school through Youth With A Mission (YWAM). “Through this experience, my desire and commitment to follow Jesus into long-term cross-cultural missions was reinforced. I had amazing opportunities to grow in my personality, giftings and passions, as well as develop as a team member and friend through cross-cultural relationships. I believe my season in Ethiopia especially was excellent preparation for the African culture and spiritual battle ground I will soon enter in Haiti,” notes Schulte.
After returning from YWAM in March, she began pursuing this dream by meeting with Brand and other MH4H members. Through these meetings, it became apparent that Schulte’s God-given gifts of teaching, leadership, prayer and encouragement were very needed in Haiti and on the MH4H team. In May of 2015, Schulte helped lead the Central College Campus Ministries team and re-engaged with the MH4H team in Haiti.
Heidi recently returned to Haiti for a short-term trip. God’s love and call for this next step has been evident.Schulte’s full-time role as development coordinator will concentrate on various spiritual, educational and leadership development ministries. This includes early childhood development and educational initiatives, mainly through the Thrive for 5 program. She also will have a focused effort in prayer for the ministry in Haiti, as this is essential for long-term sustainability.
“My desire is this would be a time of growing in God’s love and sharing Him with those in Haiti. I pray that He would be made known and His kingdom would be advanced,” shares Schulte.
Please welcome Heidi Schulte to the MH4H team and be in prayer for her physical, spiritual, and financial preparation to make this possible.
