This morning, we woke to the news that around 1:00 AM, President Jovenel Moise was assassinated in his home. First Lady Martine was shot and is in the hospital. This was a planned attack by a well-armed group of individuals, as political turmoil has plagued the country in recent years. We mourn these horrific deaths, as this violence breaks our hearts.
As it concerns Many Hands for Haiti, all are safe at our campus and we have not seen violence in our area at this time. We will be suspending all IMPACT trips until further notice, as we keep abreast of this unfolding situation. Short-term personnel in Haiti will be leaving the country this week via our partner provider, Missionary Flights International. Our in-country leadership will continue to lead us through this tragedy and monitor the situation from Haiti.
At this time, we ask for prayers. Please pray for the Jovenel family and the loss they are experiencing. Pray for our Haitian brothers and sisters, who are weeping for their country and the trauma they have experienced over the past months. Pray for the communities we serve, as people are desperate for hope, food, and stability. Pray for our leadership, as we navigate unknown waters in a very turbulent political situation. Most of all, pray for the love of Christ and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit to wash over the darkness and overcome evil with good. Because of sin, hate and evil gain footholds in hearts, causing pain, brokenness, and chaos. May God bring shalom to the chaos. For we know that God works all things for the good of His people, even in situations we don’t understand. May His peace reign in our hearts today and may we remind people of the Hope we have in Jesus Christ. Pray that we may be love in action for the broken, the weary, and the lost. Pray for the Lord to strengthen our hands and the hands of the Haitian people, as we walk through the challenges presented today. May God’s will be done, on Earth, as it is in Heaven.
