Do you remember when MP3 players were all the rage? Ask any grade-schooler what an “MP3” is. They will most likely be confused and have no idea what you are talking about and you will start a story with the cliché phrase “Well, back in my day…”
But there was nothing wrong with a good old MP3! It was portable, had good sound, and kept you up to date with the newest songs. An MP3 player created the opportunity to listen to anything anywhere.
The staff at Many Hands for Haiti took the opportunity to use this flexible technology and ran with it. Partnering with Audio Scripture Ministries, we have been testing and distributing various models of MP3 players loaded with teaching and scripture. Many Hands has also begun recording content, giving our Spiritual Shepherds a way to share teachings and lessons to those wanting to listen. Pastor Lumanes shared his view on the Audio Bible program below.

“Everything is going well right now. We have already made many recordings recently and we’re still going. Myself (Pastor Lumanes), Pastor Jean-Ronel, and 2 other pastors, and our technician, Mr. Craig. When we are finished making the recordings we put them on the little MP3 players.
“Who will receive them? Anyone who is interested. For example: the mothers in the PMJ program in Sylvain and Maliarette, we have four bible studies, anyone on our Sylvain & Maliarette staff, and any couples that Many Hands has married. These are the groups that are interested to listen and learn from the recordings. Especially in the bible studies. We’re teaching a really nice lesson, ‘New Life in Christ’. This same lesson we’re teaching in the class involves the same people who will listen to the MP3 players. When we’re finished teaching them at the class and they return to their homes with the MP3 players, they will hear the lesson again. This will help them to learn the lesson even better. The really good explanations will help them to memorize better, which will have a positive impact and give them a higher capacity, because of their knowledge in God, to influence others through evangelization.”
“…we are so happy for the way in which we can continue to walk with Many Hands, using different strategies that will allow more people to hear the Good News that gives life!”
Our hope and wish is to get more MP3’s and to make more recordings that we can share with people who are interested. We hope this will allow the gospel to be spread throughout all of the communities where we are working and even further.
For those working in the Evangelization department, we are so happy for the way in which we can continue to walk with Many Hands, using different strategies that will allow more people to hear the Good News that gives life!”

So if you are feeling a little down about the whole “I used to think MP3 players were the coolest, now no one knows what they are”…remember all the good those little, wonderful, pieces of technology are doing for people down in Haiti. That should give you a little taste of nostalgia and a lift in your spirits.
