Where I come from we can have Amazon Prime ship us almost anything we want in 2 days. Boxes show up at our doorstep, sometimes for multiple days in a week. Yet somehow it seems we never have enough. Whether it be strategic marketing, the American dream, or just my sin nature rearing its ugly head, we are enticed to never be content. There is more out there. You deserve more. You need more. More will make you happy.

Coming from the Land of More to a place like Pignon, Haiti, I am tempted to see all that they do not have. Just a dirt floor in their house. A house missing windows, or a door, a roof or even walls. There are not a lot of cars. Not a lot of developed buildings or roads. The food at the market is not bountiful and beautiful like back home at the super market.

So why is it yesterday while standing in the cramped front room of the Machete Man’s house on his dirt floor, I got the sense that he is rich and I am poor? As he raised his voice to God, our Father, Machete Man thanked Him for all that He has given, for all that we have, and asked that God would bless us and protect us. Tears welled up in my dust filled eyes as I realized I am pleased by such little things. I fill and refill my life with whatever I think will make me happy or better only to be left searching for the next thing. What God offers is so much more than what Amazon Prime can ship me. The fullness God offers, money or a nice house cannot replace it.
“Tears welled up in my dust filled eyes as I realized I am pleased by such little things.”

So I prayed this morning that God would once again do a great work in my heart. That He would make me rich like my Haitian brother. That I would be pleased and satisfied in His riches and not in the world’s. What God offers He has already delivered in the work of Jesus Christ and the filling of the Spirit. God help me to remember there is no 2-day shipping that can compare with that.
