The Accident of Geography and the Purpose of Presence
You didn’t choose where you were born, but you can choose how you use the resources you’ve been given. We invite you to join the cycle of transformation. Let’s move from being bystanders to being “Love in Action.”
None of us chose where we would arrive in this existence.
We didn’t choose the stability of our childhood homes, the quality of the soil under our feet, or the strength of the passport in our pockets. Most of us reading this were born into what we might call “abundance”—a place where opportunity is the default and basic needs are a given.
But for so many of our neighbors in Haiti and Abaco, geography tells a different story. It’s a story of scarcity, of forgotten corners, and of families fighting daily for the very things we often take for granted: a safe floor, a healthy meal, or a classroom for their children.
At Many Hands, we believe that while geography may be an accident, presence is a choice. And when you choose to give monthly, you are choosing to be present for the long haul.
Beyond the Handout: Building the Pyramid
The needs in places like Pignon, Haiti, or Marsh Harbour, Abaco, are vast, but they aren’t unsolvable. However, they cannot be fixed with a one-time transaction. True transformation requires a steady, consistent hand.
We use a model we call the Pyramid of Stability. It’s based on the idea that you cannot speak to a man’s soul if his stomach is empty, and you cannot empower a mother if she doesn’t have a safe roof over her children. We focus on six critical “Building Blocks”:
-
-
- Agriculture
- Education
- Safe Structures
- Health Assistance
- Economic Opportunity
- Life Development
-
When these blocks are in place, we see something incredible happen: Dignity is restored. A parent moves from a mindset of survival to a mindset of investment. They become the hero in their own children’s story.
Why Monthly Support is the “Engine”
Transformation doesn’t happen overnight; it happens over 1,000 days. It happens over years of walking alongside a community.
Monthly donors are the bedrock of this work. They add predictable fuel to our Generosity Engine. Because of monthly partners, we can:
-
-
- Guarantee meals: We can plan bulk food purchases for our First 1,000 Days centers, ensuring no child goes hungry.
- Keep teachers in classrooms: We can provide consistent salaries for the educators at our School of Light in Haiti and our ARK program in Abaco.
- Respond to crises: When the “unseen needs” arise—a medical emergency or a sudden storm—we don’t have to wait for a fundraiser. The resources are already there because you were there.
-
A Thing to Be Part Of
There is a profound joy in knowing that your “Treasure” is being converted into something eternal. As our CEO Tim Brand often says, “We are all part of a magnificent story that’s being written, and we get woven into a story that’s bigger than us.”
By becoming a monthly partner, you aren’t just sending a check. You are extending your hand across an ocean. You are telling a mother in Haiti, “You are not forgotten.” You are telling a student in Abaco, “Your future matters.”
You didn’t choose where you were born, but you can choose how you use the resources you’ve been given. We invite you to join the cycle of transformation. Let’s move from being bystanders to being “Love in Action.”
