Walking in Unity: Intentionality in Prayer at the Many Hands’ Campuses in Haiti
Many Hands staff in Haiti took part in a special morning devotion recently and would encourage others to consider doing something similar. Staff across all five of Many Hands’ locations spent 30 minutes in a prayer walk during their normal devotional time. Christi Gabhart shares some thoughts and images from that special time.
Many Hands’ staff dedicate 30 minutes each morning to personal devotion. However, a recent morning saw a unique departure from routine. All five of our Haiti ‘Love in Action’ locations simultaneously engaged in a special prayer walk during their devotional time.
At the SYL campus, pastor Jean-Ronel gave direction to Many Hands’ staff members, while our Spiritual Moms led the other four centers. All five centers prayed to express gratitude for all God accomplished and provided for in 2024 and, looking ahead, all staff members prayed for protection in 2025. Prayers during this time were focused on the US Many Hands’ team, the Many Hands’ board and decisions they must make, and for the members and volunteers of Many Hands for Abaco.

The focus prayer for this time was Psalm 34:10, which says, “Those who trust in the Lord lack for nothing.”
During the 30 minutes of prayer, aside from time for a bit of direction and intentions, the atmosphere was to be concentrating on prayer in silence. The reason behind this was because of direction from 1 Thessalonians 5:19, which says, “Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.” Staff at SYL used the prayer path around the perimeter of the campus for their prayer walk time.

This shared experience was truly special. It served as a powerful reminder of the deep community that binds us together – a community rooted in our shared faith and service to God. As staff walked that morning, praying for the future, a poignant symbol appeared: a delicate feather discovered on the prayer path.

This unexpected gift, a reminder of the promise of Psalm 91:4, “He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection,” brought a renewed sense of peace and assurance to their hearts.
