Today is January 10, 2025. It is our second day in Haiti, but the first day of immersing ourselves in the reality of the living situations these Haitians face. Fierce and harsh conditions that we in America could never even imagine. We started our day by heading to a home about 10 minutes from the campus to pour a concrete floor in a house for the family walking with Many Hands. This well-established program has been able to bless 1,119 families with cement floors to get them off the dirt ground. And when I say house, I mean a home that is smaller than our bedrooms in the US. They were sided with tree bark, a tin roof, and no space for any kind of privacy.

The ride there was quite the start to the morning when we fit three people on a bike a little larger than a moped down a very beat-up and washed-out dirt path. Imagine a level B road in Iowa, now intensify that by ten. Up and down crazy hills and somehow, we went all the way there and back without tipping or crashing. Crazy to us, but just another day for them.

There are so many more extremes we could share with you but none of these experiences could meet the overwhelming beauty and joy in the people and the surrounding scenery. When you look past the trash on the streets, you are surrounded by luscious mountains and beautiful greenery. Although it’s amazing to take in, no view of the landscape could ever beat the view of a bright smile on a little girl who wants nothing but to hang on you and play with you. Then she takes you to meet her family, and even then, her parents are so vibrant with their shining smiles and warm welcome.

It’s such a beautiful reminder that the Lord is present in every and all circumstances.
